Empowering girls with knowledge, confidence, and dignity — before their first period
About FlowReady
FlowReady is a North Carolina-based non profit organization. It is dedicated to improving menstrual education and access to sanitary products for young girls in Eastern Africa and beyond. This effort also includes the US. With a primary focus on premenarcheal girls—those yet to experience their first period — FlowReady seeks to:
- Prepare them with essential knowledge,
- Potentially reduce anxiety and misinformation,
- Combat harmful cultural norms, and
- Provide resources for managing menstruation with dignity.

Advocacy and Impact
FlowReady also works to dismantle the dangerous association between menarche and readiness for marriage or childbearing, advocating for the rights and empowerment of young girls. This can help prevent early marriages and protect girls’ educational opportunities.
The initiative is currently self-funded by its founder, with plans to expand operations.

Our Mission
To deliver cost-effective, engaging, and empowering menstrual health programs that unlock lasting benefits—improving health, keeping girls in school, expanding opportunities, and reducing child marriage.
Our Vision
A world where girls grow up free from menstrual stigma, misinformation, and harmful expectations around early marriage—empowered to reach their full potential. We envision girls attending and completing school, recognizing that education, especially at the secondary level, is linked to reduced child marriage, improved maternal health, and delayed childbearing.
Why we exist
Every year, millions of girls encounter their first period without knowing what to expect. For too many, this moment comes with fear, stigma, and silence — or worse, it becomes a signal for early marriage or childbearing. These issues can be exacerbated by pervasive cultural taboos and restrictions around menstruation.
FlowReady was created to change this story. We aim to ensure every girl understands her body, feels empowered to ask questions, and is supported throughout her journey into adolescence.
Our approach
At FlowReady, we combine menstrual hygiene management with comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education. We address the needs of young girls holistically. We offer both essential products and empowering knowledge. This ensures that girls are equipped to manage their periods confidently. It also helps them make informed decisions about their bodies and futures. Additionally, we provide girls with menstrual supplies. These supportive items allow for the proper usage of the menstrual materials. Examples include soap, a bucket, underwear, and toilet paper.

We believe that preparing girls early makes all the difference. We don’t just talk about periods — we provide real knowledge and tools that empower girls and communities. We understand the importance of menstrual health education. It is crucial because girls’ families are not comfortable or equipped to provide this information. Our core focus areas include:
- Menstrual Hygiene Management: Practical knowledge and access to sustainable products.
- Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Education: Topics like bodily autonomy, reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, and dismantling myths around menarche and readiness for marriage.
- Community Empowerment: Engaging parents, teachers, and leaders to foster supportive stigma-free environments for girls.
Why It Matters
Periods should never be a reason for a girl to miss school, feel ashamed, or face discrimination. At FlowReady, we’re working toward a future where menstruation is seen for what it truly is — a normal, healthy part of life.
Our programs directly contribute to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being – Promoting menstrual hygiene and SRHR education to ensure healthier lives and well-being for girls.
- Goal 4: Quality Education – Reducing absenteeism caused by menstruation and empowering girls to stay in school.
- Goal 5: Gender Equality – Dismantling harmful cultural norms and advancing gender equality through education and advocacy.
- Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation – Encouraging proper hygiene practices and improving access to water and soap for menstrual health.
- Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – Promoting sustainable menstrual products like reusable pads to reduce environmental waste.
